Do You Regret Buying A Big House?
My husband and I have been looking for a house to buy because we live in a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom condo and our family is growing. Our place is really nice and has a lot of upgrades, it’s just a little small for us now. With baby #2 on the way, we have no idea where we will put everything or how our kids will share a room. I’d love a house, but at the same time it scares me to death! I love being able to afford things because we don’t have a big mortgage. And sometimes when my husband is out of town, I don’t get scared being alone with small kid(s) because I feel safer here than in a bigger home. Is owning a house all it’s cracked up to be? My husband and I spend way too much time house hunting but we never actually go ahead and go for it (although we have put offers on a couple houses but never got them). Our extended family is big and most of our brothers and sisters have bigger homes and it feels like they never want to come and visit us because we don’t have a yard, lack of space. Even if we invite people over for a party, my mother in law says “oh, why don’t you guys come over here instead” as if our place isn’t good enough. Please give any advice about pros and cons of when you made an upgrade from a small place to a bigger place.

smaller-not enough room till all your kids move out but then again when they do move out they might want to use a guest room and smaller ones don’t usually have that many
bigger- you get more space but it makes you look like you don’t have much it can be good or bad since it depends how you feel about how much stuff you have but a bigger one also takes more time to clean but its better if you have kids or pets running around a lot because if you have a small place they might just end up on your couch all the time~
LOL! Do not buy a bigger place just because your family have bigger houses. If the kids are the same sex, they can share for ever. As to the space issue, there is a very simple solution: get less stuff. Less clothes, less toys, less general crap. People don’t want to come around to your place? Great! No cooking or clean up to do.
My husband and I are in a similar situation. We own a smaller home than everyone else we know.
We also have the smallest mortgage payment.
There are advantages to a small mortgage. We never have to worry about losing our home.
We do not have to put all our money into the mortgage payment. That has always been important to us.
While we too would like to have a larger home, we do not want the larger payment.
We raised 3 children in our small 3 bedroom, 1 bath home. They are grown and on their own now.
You are just starting out. You have lots of time ahead of you to eventually get a larger home if you find you really need one.
In the meantime, what you can do is start by downsizing some of your belongings to make room for the new baby. Give away items that you really don’t need or have not used for years.
Organize what you do have to make things neater, if necessary.
Two children can definitely share a room.
Maybe when they are older, you will be able to buy a little larger home or condo.
For now, the last thing you should do is feel pressured by the size of others homes. While they have the extra room, they may be broke and always struggling to make their house payment. You are secure.

No I don’t and when you grow up you will realize you missed the opportunity of a lifetime. Low prices, low interest and a chance for everyone to have breathing room
If you have another kid on the way and if you can afford it, a larger place might not be a bad idea. If a house scares you, consider a townhome or a larger condo. However, before you throw all your money into a giant place, think about what you really *need* rather than what you feel pressured to buy. If you’re going to have to stretch to get a bigger place, then it’s probably not a good idea. An enormous house isn’t going to make your life any better if you aren’t left with any money to enjoy anything else…And ayone whose self-worth comes primarily from the size of their house probably has bigger insecurities they need to work out.
I deliberately bought a much smaller house than I could have afforded. A huge place just means correspondingly large energy bills, and that much more time keeping the place clean. I don’t care if my friends’ houses are twice as large as mine; I love not having a smaller mortgage and thus having more money to enjoy traveling and other activities.
